It&#8217;s like a bit of a tug-of-war between wistfully thinking of the sweet cuddles of the early years and the intense gratitude I feel when I see <a href=\"https:\/\/differentbydesignlearning.com\/dyslexic-son-is-finally-reading\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">how far my boys have come<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Would you rather listen to this post?<\/em><br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none;\" src=\"\/\/html5-player.libsyn.com\/embed\/episode\/id\/14113679\/height\/90\/theme\/custom\/thumbnail\/yes\/direction\/backward\/render-playlist\/no\/custom-color\/3ebdc0\/\" width=\"100%\" height=\"90\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/simplehomeschool.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/The-Strength-Based-Homeschool-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-61633\" src=\"http:\/\/simplehomeschool.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/The-Strength-Based-Homeschool-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"445\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/simplehomeschool.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/The-Strength-Based-Homeschool-2.jpg 600w, https:\/\/simplehomeschool.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/The-Strength-Based-Homeschool-2-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 445px) 100vw, 445px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After ten years, I can tell you that the drastic changes in how we are &#8220;doing school&#8221; during this pandemic have only served to reinforce what I believe to be true about homeschooling.<\/p>\n<p><strong>At its most essential level, I&#8217;ve learned that homeschooling is an extension of parenting.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We help our children learn throughout their lives &#8211; as they talk, as they walk, as they make neighborhood friends, as they slip on shoes, bathe &#8211; all of it on some level reflects how we help our children progress.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Homeschooling adds in more subjects, more time spent devoted to learning, more relationship, but at its core, remains true to its beginning &#8211; a parent doing what they can to help their child grow and develop.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-61617 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/simplehomeschool.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Untitled-design-2020-04-05T092823.515.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/simplehomeschool.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Untitled-design-2020-04-05T092823.515.png 480w, https:\/\/simplehomeschool.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Untitled-design-2020-04-05T092823.515-300x219.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you are new to this or even taking on your child&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/simplehomeschool.net\/never\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">learning in absolute protest<\/a>, I want to share with you something that I wish someone would&#8217;ve told me a long time ago.<\/p>\n<p>If, like me, you <em>have<\/em> been homeschooling for years, my guess is you may need to hear it, too.<\/p>\n<h3>What No One Tells You About Homeschooling (especially now)<\/h3>\n<p>It&#8217;s easy to get caught up in the reading levels and the math worksheets. It&#8217;s even easier to blame ourselves when are children struggle or are resistant.<\/p>\n<p>My social media feeds are filled with parents asking for help, struggling to figure out how to do all this, and a ton of memes taking a fun look at the reality we are all facing right now.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Crisis-schooling is the worst, whether you&#8217;ve been homeschooling for three years or three weeks.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here is what I want you to know.<\/p>\n<p>It matters.<\/p>\n<p>Even if your child ripped up the worksheet or refused to get on the computer for an online class.<\/p>\n<p>Even if you wanted to hide for most of the day in your closet.<\/p>\n<p>Even if you <em>did<\/em> hide for most of the day in your closet.<\/p>\n<p>Even if your child seems unfocused or lazy, disrespectful or sad.<\/p>\n<p>Even if <em>you<\/em> seem unfocused or lazy, disrespectful or sad.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Just like parenting, homeschooling brings out the best and the worst in all of us. We learn as we go. Truth be told, we are accustomed to a certain level of chaos as part of our daily life &#8211; more so than I would like.<\/p>\n<p>What I know now, looking back, is that <strong>homeschooling can be part of the cure.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The togetherness, the ability to just be how we need to be, in the space we feel most comfortable &#8211; it matters.<\/p>\n<p>It matters far more than any writing assignment or online class.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-61612 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/simplehomeschool.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Untitled-design-2020-04-05T092542.859.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/simplehomeschool.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Untitled-design-2020-04-05T092542.859.png 480w, https:\/\/simplehomeschool.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Untitled-design-2020-04-05T092542.859-300x219.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As you and your family move through the next couple of months and all the turmoil that may come, I want you to know that your children will be better off for the time they are spending with you each day.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, it will feel like a mess, all the time.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, it will be difficult and you will be sure that you are failing them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We all feel this way.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But what I can see now, looking back, is that my children are much more capable and resilient <em>because<\/em> they have been able to weather very difficult storms in the safety and security of our family dynamic.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a tragedy, what is happening in our world right now.<\/p>\n<p>I am glad our children are experiencing it with those who love them most.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/simplehomeschool.net\/quiz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">What&#8217;s Your Homeschool Mom Personality?
