Thanks for validating my existence! I was so happy to have come across this. Nice to know I’m not alone as an HSP introvert–sometimes, watching other moms, I can feel like an alien…so this article was encouraging.

I am 51 years old, we’re in our 21st year of homeschooling, and I have 8 children. The oldest will be 30 in December and my youngest is 10. I also have 2 granddaughters, the oldest of which moved in with us (along with her dad, my son) when her mom died of cancer 2.5 years ago. At that time our 6 youngest children were still living here and the oldest daughter’s wedding was a month off. The past 2+ years have been rough for a HSP, as you can guess. My husband has a highly-stressful full-time job, we were trying to run a small farm and soap business, as well as prepare for early retirement. To say I was on the edge of insanity is an understatement. I finally decided last spring to work on ending the insanity by selling off farm animals, cutting back on the soap business, and decluttering the house and yard. Too much stimulation all around! It’s getting better, but you’ve shown me some more tips I hadn’t figured out yet, and I thank you for that.

I’m a HSP non-permanent mother of a 11-month-old little girl. also, a school teacher of English. Susan Cain’s Quiet was my statement of autonomy. I may need to compose the book on self-administer to HSPs involved in the exceptionally obtrusive child care framework. Be that as it may, in the first place, I need to survive it and parenthood.

When I have my morning time, my day runs smoothly, but if that is interrupted it is as if my day is on a quick downward slope to insanity where all I want to do is hide is my room. I’m definitely going to add these to my daily routine.

It was comforting, reassuring and encouraging on many levels. I deeply appreciated the honesty and the permission it gives to truly discover our best selves and move forward in a way that honours and respects our strengths and our limitations. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! Thank-you again for writing with such clarity and crafted brilliance.

I recently discovered this blog through The Read Aloud Revival and every post I’ve read has been a blessing. Thank-you for your incredible work and may God bless your efforts.

Thanks, Anne, for shining some light on this topic. Often times I feel alone in this. We are unschoolers for now, so it makes it a lot easier on me.
My questions for you is, how do you keep your kids separated during quiet time?
I have been enforcing quiet time since my girls stopped napping, they are 5 and 3 (the 1 yr old still naps at QT). They always want to be together. The girls each have their own room, but they want to be together during quiet time. I don’t want to force them to stay apart, but I do wish they would. Any advice would help.

I’m an HSP foster mom of an 11-month-old daughter. and a college professor of English. Susan Cain’s Quiet was my declaration of independence. I may have to write the book on self-care for HSPs embroiled in the very invasive foster care system. But first, I have to survive it and motherhood.

I didn’t know either: I thought always two things about myself all my life (I’m 56): I’m shy and my hormones carry me (first, PMS, now menopause! and with two 8 yr olds at home!). It so good to know I’m not losing my mind and to read that other women, different ages and stages in life, go through the same stuff. So good to NOT feel alone… Thanks for sharing!

Staying off social media will be a hard adjustment, but I’m curious to see if it would be a drastic improvement. Thanks so very much for the tips.
