Oh! That’s wonderful. Aren’t the dogs amazing in helping kids (and grown-ups!) to relax? I always find myself petting them while she reads!

Now that other kids are coming up the line, I am a little nervous. What was so effortless for her may not be for them. But this helps me to relax – they’ll read when they’re ready. 🙂

My mom trained and used her therapy dog in hospitals, at special schools and at old age homes. I never thought or imagined how effective therapy dogs could be to help young, emerging readers. There are no programs like this here in South Africa! What a wonderful concept!

My daughter participated in a “read to doggies” program at our local library. Library communications staff was on had one of the Saturdays to document it and my kiddo ended up being, literally, the post-child for the program. It was a confidence booster and so relaxing to be around the animals.
