We didn’t use that too much, Mary, but we did use it now and then! I think you would skip quite a bit of it that is “kiddy” but I can’t quite remember if it would be tough to do away with completely. If you reach out to them, they’d be helpful to answer that for you!

Do you think the activity book necessary/helpful for that age?

Oh I’m so glad this was a comforting reminder for you, Celia! I myself continue to need those reminders that there are many paths that can lead to the same eventual goal.

My oldest (almost 8) learned to read quickly and is halfway through level 3 of AAS…but he enjoys spelling a lot (I loved to spell as a kid, so that’s part of why I started him early, perhaps earlier than I should have!). We spend 4 days on one step, so it’s not too long each day. But I can tell that my second child, who is just beginning to learn to read, will likely be very different. It’s a good reminder that I can hold off on spelling for quite a while and it will all be fine. 🙂

I honestly can’t remember which one, Ann – I just looked at some of the levels and showed him the excerpt so he could get an idea of the format of the lessons.

What sample did you use from All About Spelling to show Jonathan? Thank you😊

Because Jonathan chose to get serious about spelling, he was (almost) always a willing participant, which means we have had some of our best times and biggest laughs during our lessons.
